During Colston’s 11-year tenure , BCC changed dramatically in size and student demographic.

In 1973, BCC found a permanent home on NYU’s former uptown campus. It moved from Creston Ave and West 184^th Street (the former site of Bronx High School of Science) to its current location overlooking the Harlem River. The new campus boasted modern classrooms, lecture halls and laboratories, a student center, cafeteria, lounges, athletic fields, tennis courts, and swimming pool.

The new location was secured to address a changing and growing student body. By the late 1960s, BCC boasted the highest number of Black and Hispanic students in the CUNY system. In Nursing, one of the college’s most successful academic programs, 50% were students of color.
