A history of Black Artists and the Arts at BCC

From writer John O. Killens, founder of the Harlem Writers Guild, who became the first writer-in-residence at Bronx Community College in 1978, to visits from dancer Pearl Primus, writer James Baldwin, artist Romare Bearden, and actors Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, to the Art and Music department leadership of musician Valerie Capers from 1987 to 1995 — our college has a long and vibrant history of Black artists and the arts on its campus.
